The May Blues

It is already the end of the month and looking back, I cannot say if it was really eventful. Before I went to college, I only think of May as last leg of a summer vacation, the month of Santacruzan and the nearing school day. By the time I got to college, May was the last month for a summer term. It was something like an unsettling period. Of course, it remains an unsettling period to me. I have heard from anime about the May blue but I am not sure if it is applicable to us, Filipinos, or to me in particular.

Story from the past: The Young Entrepreneur

When I was a kid, I helped out my mother look after our dry goods store in a market stall. Business was not booming. I think it was already to the point of closing down either due to my mother's lack of time or lack of interest in continuing the business. I cannot recall well but I think it was more on the former than the latter since she was also taking care of all the chores in the house. My sister and I were -- and sadly remain as -- useless daughters in our house. Anyway, I was tasked to watch over the store while we were trying to sell off the rest of the goods and be done with the business. At that time, I had fun being responsible for a money bag full of coins. Not because I could sell stuff. It was because I could buy palamig and kakanin from the food stalls. Oh, yes! I was already very much of a glutton when I was a kid. I somewhat remember my mother oftenly asked me if I bought food again and if ever there was a sale after I close the store in the evening.

MRT EDSA goes 24/7

Having no car to drive in Manila is a curse and a blessing.
A curse because a car enables a person to easily move around the metropolitan using the most direct route through highways, major roads and shortcuts.
A blessing because I do not have to worry about a car maintenance, gas sustenance and the bloody traffic. Of course, seeing it in a positive way denotes my lack of money but who cares anyway.
While there is a substantial number of buses, jeepneys and taxi cabs crawling all over Metro Manila, nothing beats MRT when it comes to convenience of public commuting.

Scam Mails and High School Classmates

Ever heard of the Sony Ericsson R320 laptop e-mail forwards? What a scam. And mail servers are clogged once again with useless messages. I got one earlier through a university batch mailing list. And seriously, how come there are so many gullible people? But then, it won't be a scam if nobody gets fooled. It is just surprising that people who are supposed to be intelligent do not really think through first before clicking on that forward button. I wonder if it is the mindless text messaging mentality of the many.
Onto another topic, I am happy to learn that a childhood friend of mine is in Palawan for a few days. She's inviting our high school classmates for dinner in Kina-Butch. While I am game to go out, since it's been a very long time since I saw her, I am a bit tempted to skip it and just reschedule for an afternoon jaunt to a coffee shop. And that is the lazy side of me talking. My mom is not around. When she is not around, it means I have no free ride to places I want to go to. While I am free to use the car, I don't drive. Or more like, it's been so long since I've tried driving. I don't have a driver. I don't feel like commuting because it is a hassle. Our houseboy still doesn't have his license for the motorbike. Also, I have chores to do that I find an afternoon outing will be more beneficial to me. I need to go to the water district to pay the water bill and a visit to the NCCC will allow me to buy stuff I might need for the house.
Sighs.

Nitpicking on Food

I am not sure why am I am not so inspired to write anything these days. I am bored. Very bored. I don't find anything interesting in my life that makes me want to squeal with excitement. I know getting cooped up inside my room all the time is not really going to help my current disposition. But seriously, aside from the monotonous activies like sleeping, watching videos, reading manga and surfing, preparing something to eat seems to be the only thing these days I really bother with. (Even though, most of the time, I feel really annoyed just because I always feel lazy and uninspired.)
For the past two weeks, my taste buds have been a bit discerning about the taste of the food that I ate. Looking back, it seems I'm going through a variety of food and drinks to invoke various taste sensations.
